Our Team

The North Road Veterinary Centre was established in Gardenvale in1969.

Drs Andrew and Wendy Milledge have been the proud owners since 1990, and have built an exceptional team of dedicated animal care professionals, many of whom have called North Road Vet their 'working home' for many years!

We are a dedicated team of animal lovers, and all concerns with your pets are dealt with genuine compassion, in a caring and gentle manner.

Practice Managers and Owners

Drs Andrew and Wendy Milledge both graduated as veterinarians with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 1983, meeting at university at 19 years of age. They initially gained experience working in small animal practices in metropolitan Melbourne, before realising their dream and purchasing the North Road Veterinary Centre in 1990, working together as a husband and wife team. The NRVC team has grown since then! When not at the clinic, they enjoy spending time with family and friends, and maintaining fitness enjoying the pleasures of golf!  

Our Veterinarians

Dr Caroline Thursfield
Veterinarian BVSc (Hons)

Caroline graduated with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 1995. She initially worked in mixed practice after graduation, and has since worked extensively in small animal practice. She also worked in a rural small animal practice whilst living in the UK. Caroline has been part of the team at North Road since 1998 and has established a loyal client following. She has a particular interest in animal behaviour and welfare as well as the provision of preventative health care. When not at work, Caroline enjoys travel and outdoor pursuits including hiking, scuba diving and running. She competed and completed the London Marathon in 2019 raising funds for the Worldwide Veterinary Service.  At home Caroline is kept extremely active with Angus, a particularly handsome farm bred Border Collie, often running into clients in the local parks where Angus is well known.

Jenny graduated with Honours from the University of Melbourne in 1992. Early in her career Jenny travelled to the UK, and worked extensively in small animal practice. Jenny joined the team at North Road in 1999. She is particularly interested in the health and wellbeing of pets, providing preventative health care and also looking after our senior pets, helping to manage chronic conditions and maximising their quality of life. Jenny also has a keen interest in animal welfare and a focus on maintaining excellent client care and communication. Outside of work Jenny loves cooking, travel and photography. She is the chief cake baker at NRVC!

Byron grew up on a hobby farm on the Mornington Peninsula and has always been surrounded by animals. Having worked around the southeastern suburbs since graduating in 2007, Byron became a bayside resident and joined North Road Veterinary Centre in 2012. His particular interests are ultrasonography and internal medicine. Outside NRVC, Byron is kept busy by two young children, two ageing Chihuahua/terrier crosses, Dexter and Alby, two beautiful Burmese cats, Lily and Tonky, North Road adoptee, Burmilla Morley, and an ever expanding colony of dwarf tropical shrimp!

Pey grew up just down the road, on North Road, and remembers wanting to be a vet from a very young age. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2013 and started her career in a large busy 24 hour veterinary hospital. Pey then spent a few years living in London, where she continued to practise as  a small animal vet whilst travelling the world. She is now back home, and is looking forward to reconnecting with the Bayside area. She has a Blue Heeler, called Reli and will soon be adding a cat to her four-legged family. Pey loves animals of all sizes, and can't wait to meet you and your pet!

Dr Rachel Kirchheimer

Rachel graduated with Honours from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2007. She always wanted to be a vet and follow in her mum's footsteps. After working in the UK for a few years she moved to Melbourne and has been a bayside resident ever since. She has completed a certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice and has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and geriatric medicine. She loves getting to know clients and working with them to provide the best possible care for their pets, so that they lead a happy and healthy life. We are very excited to have Rachel join our team. Outside of work, Rachel can often be found running with her Border Terrier, Edie, and playing Lacrosse (she has represented both England and Australia). She is also kept busy looking after her young daughter.

Head Vet Nurse

Carli joined the North Road team in 2014 after moving from Sydney. She has completed a Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing and started her nursing career in 2010. Carli is passionate about animals and all aspects of veterinary nursing, and in particular enjoys building up close relationships with both clients and their pets. She has always been surrounded by animals, growing up with four dogs in Sydney! When not at work she enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Justin and their gorgeous Cavoodle fur baby, Jackson, working out, travelling and seeing friends.

Vet Nurse

Ingrid joined the team at North Road in 2011. She has a very large animal family; five cats- Henry, Angus ( RSPCA adoptees), Midge (an orphan she hand reared from one week of age), George and Roger (adoptees from NRVC). Bob her Border Collie, loves herding, lure coursing and frisbee fun, Jack a rescue Kelpie has also recently joined her animal family.  Ingrid also has a passion for wildlife, having been a volunteer at the Wildlife Care Network, caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, and also for the Phillip Island Penguin Study Program, weighing and measuring penguins and monitoring their roosting sites.

Vet Nurse

Brooke is originally a New Zealand girl, making the move from Dunedin to Melbourne to join the North Road team and call Australia home in 2018. She has been nursing for over 4 years and also holds a certificate in Equine Science and a diploma in Rural Business. Brooke has always had a passion for animals and has grown up with animals large and small; dogs, cats and horses. She lives with her partner and a beautiful Birman cat, Gucci. When not at work Brooke enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and visiting parts of Australia she is still to discover!

Lynn joined the North Road team in 2014 after completing her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing. Whilst we mostly see dogs and cats at the clinic, Lynn loves to see peculiar animals like owls and ferrets. When not at the clinic you can find Lynn volunteering at a not for profit rehabilitation centre for "ducks hooked on quack".

Leanne has a wealth of nursing experience and has been part of the team at North Road since 1995! As well as general vet nursing, Leanne has also worked extensively in emergency medicine and also as an anaesthetic technician at the University of Melbourne. She has completed the Certificate IV in Vet Nursing and the Diploma in Emergency and Critical Care Vet Nursing. Leanne enjoys spending time with family and friends, sewing and is the proud owner of two beautiful Burmese, Bjork and Tin Tin.

Tennille completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2006.  She worked in a small animal practice for many years with a brief stint in emergency nursing, before joining the North Road team in 2015.  Her favourite aspects of nursing are getting to know clients and their pets, and surgical nursing. When not at work, you can find her spending time with her family on the Mornington Peninsula.  Tennille's fur babies include Madagascar, a Koolie X dog, and her two cats Gary and Tigerlilly.  Tennille and her children are obsessed with cats, and are dedicated foster carers for Peninsula Cat Rescue.  Tennille is passionate about animal rights, and enjoys plant-based cooking in her spare time.

Vet Nurse

Sarah joined the North Road team in 2013, initially working in the cattery, and has continued in to veterinary nursing. She has a passion for the surgical side of nursing and animal behavior. She appreciates just how important our furry family members are, and is the proud owner of rescue cat, Bean, who she hand reared. Sarah also loves being the favourite Aunt to Zelli, the cat, and Kaos, the mini Daschund. When Sarah's not attending a yoga lesson or working in her garden, she can be found raising orphaned native wildlife.

Vet Nurse

Lucy started at North Road in 2018, and works part-time as a nurse and receptionist.  When not at work Lucy is busy with her family, and her many pets including cats, Posy and Olive, her dog, Peppa , and guinea pigs, Emerson and Waffles.  Lucy is also a committed foster carer, fostering kittens and caring for orphaned possums. In her spare time she also enjoys reading and travel.

Deb joined the team in 2020 and brings with her a wealth of surgical nursing experience, having worked as a vet nurse for over 20 years. She completed her Advanced Certificate in Surgical Nursing whilst working at a Veterinary Specialist Centre, and has a particular passion for anaesthesia, surgery and animal rehabilitation. As well as being kept busy at North Road, she is busy at home being a mum to three beautiful and active children!

Chloe rejoined the North Road team in 2020 ,  returning after travelling and working in Canada for 2 years. We love having her back! Chloe is a qualified vet nurse with over 14 years experience, originally starting her nursing career in a coastal town in Queensland, before making the move to Melbourne. Before joining the team at North Road, she worked extensively in orthopaedic  surgery. Chloe loves all animals large and small, but has a particular passion for the very big dogs!!!

Our Vet Students

We are proud to be able to offer vet students pre-clinical and clinical placement at the clinic to supplement their studies in veterinary science.  Vet students are also offered weekend employment in our cattery, further helping to prepare them for the world of veterinary medicine.

Currently, we have two students working on the weekends.

Sophie is a final year vet student at the University of Melbourne and has worked weekends in the cattery since 2017, after completing a veterinary placement here. She has wanted to be a vet from a very young age and hopes to work in small animal or mixed practice after graduation. Outside of study and work, Sophie enjoys running, baking and walking her 15 year old Chihuahua x Pomeranian, Nutmeg.

Alexandra (Alex) joined the team at North Road in 2019 as a weekend cattery attendant. She is currently completing her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Melbourne and is set to graduate in 2021. Alex's main veterinary interests lie in small animal medicine, especially in Emergency and Critical Care. Alex also enjoys volunteering with Pets in the Park and is kept busy at home by Tallulah, her energetic Irish Wolfhound X rescue dog.

Our Groomer

Groomer, Dog and Cat Groomer

Clea provides the grooming service at the North Road Veterinary Centre. She joined our team in
2002, and has been grooming dogs and cats for many, many years! She is an expert in the
world of pet grooming! Clea is originally from the UK, and initially completed her grooming
training at the London Academy of Dog Grooming. She has taught grooming at a Diploma level,
and also has a keen interest in animal behaviour. When not absorbed in the world of pet fur,
expertly looking after your pet's hairdressing needs, Clea enjoys fishing, music and spending
time with friends and family.

Our Puppy Trainer

Puppy and Dog Trainer

Tegan conducts our puppy preschool, and puppy obedience courses on site at North Road
Veterinary Centre. She joined the team in 2010, and regularly runs classes on Sunday mornings
at the clinic with her Labrador, Mya!! She holds a Certificate 3 in Dog Training and Behaviour
from the National Dog Trainer's Federation, her expertise and experience will ensure you get
the best possible start to training, socialising and handling your puppy. Tegan can't wait to
meet you and your new puppy!!
